Oral Hygiene

Oral hygiene is the practice of maintaining healthy teeth, gums and mouth. Also called dental hygiene, it entails at-home practices and in-office dental procedures. At home, your child can maintain proper oral hygiene by flossing their teeth at least once every day and brushing twice daily. You’ll need to teach your child how to properly do these tasks.

Professional Dental Cleaning

Brushing and flossing are important aspects of oral hygiene. But these may still not be enough to counter issues like gum disease and tooth decay. In spite of religiously brushing and flossing the teeth, plaque can still accumulate below the gum line and in between teeth that are difficult to clean with a toothbrush, leading to the growth of bacteria.

A dental hygienist can reduce your and your child’s risk of dental issues by cleaning areas that have tartar and plaque deposits. They can also take X-rays of the mouth to check for any potential problems.

Once your child’s teeth are cleaned by our dental hygienist, further evaluations may be performed in order to detect any possible signs of tooth decay or gum disease. The American Dental Association recommends that everyone should schedule an appointment with their dentist at least twice per year to maintain excellent oral hygiene.
